This will decimate TasTAFE.

I am writing to call on you to use your powers as Premier to step in and sack TasTAFE CEO Dr Norman Baker, Board Chair Tim Gardner, and the TasTAFE Board.

They have failed in their duties under the Act to continue to provide vocational education and training responsive to the needs of employers, students and the Tasmanian community, including rural and isolated communities and areas where other providers of vocational education and training cannot, or are not, meeting demand effectively.

The future of TasTAFE as Tasmania's public VET provider has been thrown into doubt by CEO Dr Norman Baker's shocking announcement of $45m in planned cuts. This follows a litany of disastrous cuts to dozens of courses and jobs while failing to consult with workers, communities, or industry.
No explanation has been provided as to the justification for these cuts, whether it be their own mismanagement or further actions imposed by Minister Ellis.

It has now become clear that TasTAFE's Board misled Parliament and the community when it told members of the Legislative Council that voting to remove TasTAFE from the State Service would not leave workers worse off. It is now transparently clear that this was a deliberate lie, with this legislation providing the mechanism for cuts to conditions, courses, and jobs.

If the latest round of cuts is allowed to go ahead, it is likely to result in the sacking of 10-15% of TasTAFE's workforce. This would have a devastating impact on the Tasmanian community and is completely unacceptable.
Please step in and defend TasTAFE from this Board's mismanagement of our sole publicly owned VET provider, before it's too late.
